I am very sad to say that Homeboy Industries, the incredible organization run by Father Gregory Boyle, has suffered heavy layoffs.  The group provides counseling and rehabilitation to ex-gang members across Los Angeles.  Father Boyle has, for many years, been recognized as an innovator in support for those dragged into gang life.  Please see the article here and help if you can!  Homeboy superbly catered Pleasure Doing Business’ Fall 2010 debut.

Abount 13 years ago, I had the pleasure of meeting OJ Simpson.  His family had a beach house a few houses down from one that my family rented for many summers. He picked up the trash along the public beach every night.   I have a fond memory of him coming to our rescue.  Myself, and the rest of the children from the area, had placed a large umbrella over a hole in which we were hiding. It was towards the end of the day, and the lifeguards were off duty.  As soon as the tide overflowed, our hole became filled with water, and the umbrella, trapped further in the sand.  Within seconds of things getting frantic, Oj appeared and saved us.  He will forever remain some sort of superhero, to me.
